The Director of Recreational Sports, under general direction, oversees the administration and organization of a comprehensive recreational sports program and facility consisting of intramural sports, fitness and wellness, group exercise, open recreation, sports clubs, instructional activities, special events, and campus wide and community events.
Responsibilities:
Articulates overall vision for recreational facility and programs, oversees programs and services of Recreational Sports, provides guidance in the development of programming and activities that complement academic programs and also provide a wide variety of recreational fitness and educational, activities, provides leadership and supervision of professional, support, and student staff, oversees recruitment, supervision, and development of professional, support, and student staff.
Prepares, directs, and allocates the operational budget with resources from student fees, promotions, sales, rental fees, memberships, contributions, and other sources of revenue generated from programs and services, creates, develops, and coordinates the planning and administration of facility operations and management.
Administers, develops, and implements program and facility policies, procedures, and risk management practices, develops strategies to market programs and provide information in a timely manner to enhance communications about the department, creates departmental strategic plans and assign professional staff and resources as required to achieve established initiatives.
Represents the department at functions, including orientation programs and information fairs, to increase awareness of services and programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sports Management.
Ten years of related experience in Recreational Sports at a University, including related supervisory experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Generally Supervises.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Recreation, Sports Management.
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Evenings and weekends are required as needed.
