Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by providing administrative and operational assistance to the Laboratory Services Branch (LSB) of the Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) Division. The incumbent performs work of average difficulty in varied technical and analytical tasks which includes customer service and support in the LSB to maintain ongoing projects and successfully implement and complete new projects for GDSP.  

The incumbent works under supervision of the Research Scientist Manager (RSM) (Chemical Sciences), LSB Chief.  The incumbent will act as the LSB Administrative Liaison between the GDSP Newborn and Prenatal Screening Programs, Operational Support Section (OSS) and other stakeholders to work on laboratory procurements and various projects of the LSB.  The incumbent will maintain and monitor the asset inventory management of the LSB in accordance with the State Administrative Manual (SAM) and Public Health Administrative Manual (PHAM). The incumbent will oversee the laboratory Records Retention Policies and Procedures and work with OSS for any updates on the Records Retention policies of the LSB in accordance with the PHAM and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). The incumbent will oversee the surplus process for all LSB equipment and act as the safety coordinator for the annual Health & Safety Audit Inspection.  The incumbent will coordinate technical and analytical tasks between the LSB, CDPH’s Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), and contractors for timely processing of screening results and communicate with GDSP management and other stakeholders.
